69th Venice Film Festival – Joaquin Phoenix and the cast of The Master on the red carpet
It was one of the most awaited films at the 69th Venice Film Festival both for the subject dealt and – in particular – because to direct two Hollywood giants such as Philip Seymour Hoffman (Academy Award winner for Best Actor for “Truman Capote”) and Joaquin Phoenix there was Paul Thomas Anderson, the director of “Magnolia” and “There Will Be Blood”. The film is “The Master“, presented today in competition at the Festival. The story, very delicate, is set after WW2 and sees a very anguished Joaquin Phoenix in the shoes of a Navy vet struggling with his memories and ghosts. Freddie Sutton, the name of the character, finds a little mental and physical peace only after meeting and going into therapy with Master Lancaster Dodd (Hoffman), at the time a charismatic and very controversial leader.
